SLEEP OCEAN

Responsive Media: eXPERIENCING AN IN-HOUSE video jockey accompany

The Sleep-Ocean is a responsive interface that discusses possibilities for accelerating the hypnagogia stage of sleep, which is the experience of the transitional state from wakefulness to sleep. The Sleep-Ocean, like a microphone in the space, is an interactive installation that augments sound and music experiences for individuals with synesthesia simulation via a visual, spacial, and tangible medium. The installation visualize and actualize user’s vocal, music and touch inputs into the surrounded infrastructure, which distort, disrupt and altered the perception of the real environment, aiming to provide leading hints for positive mental phenomena that may occur during this stage. Yet in the end increase the sleep quality.  The installation infrastructure used mesh fabric and optical fiber to construct the energy path of individual’s sensual activities.

2.1  I/O

Input Hardware: Force Sensor Resistor, Microphone

Output Hardware: 9 Set of Neopixel LEDs

All fibers are connected to the control box, where user can hold and use it as a microphone and touchier. Each of the LEDs is assembled with one 3d-printed cap, which connects to 100 optical fibers, allows light transition toward 100 different directions. The structure will perform related to user’s breath, vocal, or music playing, and touch on the box.
